Gold Labrador Oil Pet Portrait of Buffy

Learn to Paint A Pet Portrait. Progression and Supply.

By Artist Clina Polloni.

Gold Labrador Retriever Portrait

Gold Labrador Retriever Portrait

Buffy was a Gold Labrador Retriever.

When I was commissioned to paint Buffy’s oil Pet Portrait, I was fascinated by the beauty of this Gold Labrador Retriever. The expression of her eyes was all about love and caring for her family.  Painting her eyes and the many colors of his hair was a wonderful experience. I put her in a background of white snow because she loved to play in it.

Canvas: 16″x 20″

Instructions and Progression:

  1. Draw and paint the under-paint: It was done in acrylics because they dry faster and it gives you the opportunity to paint immediately. Use Raw Sienna mixed with Titanium White.
  2. Paint the background: Start by painting the snow using oil painting.
  3. Start up with Buffy’s face: Put special detail in the eyes, hair and nose. It will give you a better understanding of her features.
  4. Paint Buffy’s body: Taking advantage of the texture and the many gold tones of her hair.

Still Life on Still Life on Burlap Canvas Class

Painting Class taught by Clina Polloni. “A Colonial Kitchen”

Still Life Painting on Burlap

Still Life Painting on Burlap

I called this painting “A Colonial Kitchen” because it was done at the Riverbend Park in Louisburg NC, inspired by my dear friend of “The River of Yesteryears” festival.

Learn to draw and paint on a burlap canvas instruction:

  1. Draw the still life with a soft charcoal pencil from number 555 to 557 or 4B in the burlap canvas.
  2. Do your under-paint or imprimatura with a heavy coat of acrylics to smooth the burlap, using Yellow Ochre and Ivory Black. Put attention to lights and shadows. Acrylics are very good for under-painting because they dry faster. They create a worm color that once you put the oils in the top, they look brighter.
  3. Continue painting with oils or acrylics with the final colors. Blend these colors gracefully to create lights and shadows.

This painting is inspired by a Chilean song:

White Adobe Church Painting

Learn to paint an old country church.

Painting Class Taught by Clina Polloni.

This painting was inspired by my life in Rabones, a valley of dreams located in the mountains of the central region of Chile.

White Adobe Church in Chile

White Adobe Church in Chile

I lived for 10 years in our farm called “Las Puertas de Rabones”. I was close to God, to people, nature and to animals. Memories of golden sunny days, enjoying the company of beautiful people with spirits as clear as the crystal waters of “Rio Putagan” running through the fertile land. I learned about their culture, their traditions and the purity of their lives.
