Instructions of how to do this painting:

  1. Start by drawing the window, the old wood of walls and finally the geraniums in the pot. Put attention to the cracks of the wood.
  2. Do your under-paint or imprimatura with a wash of Gold or Yellow Ochre acrylic. Also paint inside the window with Permanent Green and Ivory Black. Finally paint the in between the wood with Alizarin Crimson. Acrylics are very good for under-painting because they dry faster. The under paint is very important because you are drawing with colors and defining light and shade in your final painting. The imprimaturais an initial stain of color painted on the canvas. It provides a transparent, toned ground, which will allow light falling onto the painting to reflect through the paint layers.
Red Geraniums on a Red House Under-Paint

Red Geraniums on a Red House Under-Paint

Start painting in the following order because it is going to be easier for you:

  1. Using oils or acrylics, start painting the window. Continue with the red old wood of the walls.
  2. Paint the red geraniums in the pot.
  3. Sign your work of art.

Brushes, multi-purpose, polyvalent. There is a 10pc “Artist’s Loft” that provides most of the brushes for the beginning or the Pro Stroke-Power Creative Mark of Jerry’s Arterama. Also Wal-Mart has some fine and medium gold taklon brushes.
For Oil paintings, the best media is Refined Linseed Oil with Turpernoi. To clean the brushes Turpernoi. I have some glass containers to mix media.
Easel (a simple table metal easel is fine).
Paper towel, Pencil to draw.
Plastic plate to mix colors or a Paper Palette. SOHO has a very reasonable paper palette at Jerry’s Arterama.
