Blue Door in a Log Cabin

A log cabin with a blue door embraced by a pink bougainvillea from the beautiful mountains of North Carolina.

This is a simple paint designed for the painting classes.

Instructions of how to do this painting:

Start by drawing the log cabin, the door, the chair and finally the bougainvillea. Put attention to the interesting shapes of the old wood.
Do your under-paint or imprimatura with a wash of silver acrylic and white. Acrylics are very good for under-painting because they dry faster. The under paint is very important because you are drawing with colors and defining light and shade in your final painting. The imprimatura is an initial stain of color painted on the canvas. It provides a transparent, toned ground, which will allow light falling onto the painting to reflect through the paint layers.

Progression, start painting in the following order because it is going to be easier for you:

Using oils or acrylics, start painting the log cabin. Continue with the door, chair and stone floor.
Paint the bougainvillea in the top.
Sign your work of art.

The Market Girl Painting

In the Hispanic culture it is a tradition to go to the market, where the local people bring their fresh fruits, vegetables and craft. This girl is proud to show her flowers and vegetables with her colorful hand netted ponchos in the back.

I did this painting when I went to Ecuador. Inspired by their colorful art and culture, very similar to most of the countries in South America. People live in the cosmopolitan cities surrounded by malls and a variety of today’s modern stores. But the beautiful thing is that they preserve their culture in the market.

This painting was exhibited at the Franklin County Art Council, NC. For the 2018 5 de Mayo Celebration of the Hispanic Culture. Also, at the Renaissance Center for The Arts in Wake Forest and Punto De Vista in Winston in Salem.

Clina Polloni is a contemporary artist born in Chile, winner of the Franklin County Art Council, NC. 2017 Artist Award. Her oil paintings are inspired by her love for people, animals and nature. Her new project: “The motif of the human figure in a dialogue with natures light and colors.” In these new paintings she is portraying people in their environment and activities, representing the American and Hispanic Culture.

Instructions:

Start by drawing the pink tulip.
Give a washed of acrylic Magenta and Sap Green (look at the under-paint image). Acrylics are very good for under-painting; they create the basics colors to put the oils or acrylics in the top.
Next paint with oils or acrylics in the following order: background, tulip and leaves.

“The texture of the walls of the lighthouse were so interesting that in order to accomplished, I used super heavy gesso. I am proud to add this painting to the collection of oil paintings that I am doing about North Carolina. Ocracoke Island is an enchanting place with its natural beauty, the long-ago tales of pirates and ships, an inspiration for us artists.”

Ocracoke Island Lighthouse located in the Outer Banks, is North Carolina’s oldest lighthouse in operation, (and the second oldest in the United States). At just 65′ ft. tall, it is the smallest lighthouse on the Outer Banks, but its beacon can be spotted up to 14 miles into the Pamlico Sound and the Atlantic Ocean.

Traveling through the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, I was inspired to paint this colonial stone house with red geraniums in the window.

This is a simple paint designed for the painting classes.

This painting can be done in 2 medias, Oil Paintings or Acrylics.

Oil Paintings: You can buy them at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby, but again the most affordable ones are at Jerry’s Arterama and their brand is LUKAS.

Red Geraniums in a Stone House Window Under-Paint

Canvas: 11″x 14″

Under paint: In acrylics, give a wash to the canvas in Yellow Ochre. Paint inside the window with Permanent Green and Ivory Black.

Yellow Ochre
Carmine or Cadmium Red Medium
Cadmium Red Light
Alizarin Crimson or Rose Madder
Magenta
Burnt Sienna
Van Dyck Brown or Burnt Umber
Cadmium Yellow Light
Cadmium Yellow Medium
Permanent Green
Sap Green
Greenish Umber or Deep Green
Payne’s Gray

There are many affordable brushes in the market:
Walmart: FolkArt, Gold Taklon, fine details and shading corners detail.
Michael’s: Artist’s Loft, white synthetic brushes.
Jerry’s Arterama: Pro Stroke-Power Creative, fine and medium brushes.
1 White Bristle #3.

For Oil paintings, the best media is Refined Linseed Oil with Turpernoi. To clean the brushes Turpernoi. I have some glass containers to mix media.

Easel (a simple table metal easel is fine).

Paper towel, Pencil to draw.

Plastic/paper plate and glass. SOHO has a very reasonable paper palette at Jerry’s Arterama.
