Red Apple
Painting Class taught by Clina Polloni.
“Since I was little and my mother would go to the market to get the fresh fruits, I enjoyed painting them. Apples were my favorites”.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn Structural Drawing and combine drawing with painting.
Structural Drawing of an Apple:
- Divide your canvas in half with a vertical line. Red line in sample image.
- Draw a vertical line to the right and to the left at equals distances from the center line. Draw another two lines for the bottom of the apple. Blue lines in sample image.
- Draw an oval where you want the top of the apple. This oval must end at the vertical top lines. Pink oval in sample image.
- Draw another oval for the bottom of the apple. This oval must end at the vertical inside lines. Pink oval in sample image.
- Draw a line for the edge of the table.
- Following this basic structure, continue drawing your apple.
Painting Instructions:
- Under-paint with a lot of water to be absolved by the canvas, using acrylics because they dry faster. The under paint is very important because you are continuing to draw with colors and defining light and shade in your final painting.
- Now you can paint the background, table and shading of apple in acrylics or oils.
- Enjoy painting the apple. Put special attention to the blending of colors.
