The Mermaid of the Wave Painting

“The Mermaid of the Wave”

“La Sirena de la Ola”

Oil Painting by Clina Polloni.

The Mermaid of the Wave Painting

The Mermaid of the Wave Painting. La Sirena de la Ola.

This seascape of a mermaid was inspired by my friend Dianne, her eyes are as blue as the ocean.

There are so many tales of mermaids all over the worlds’ oceans singing to sailors because they are lonely and longing for love. Maybe in the vast Outer Banks NC beaches you will hear one playing in a wave.

This is a commissioned painting. The Mermaid of the Wave painting is © of Clina Polloni.

this painting is in a private collection.

The Majestic Sea Turtle Painting

Oil painting by Kathy Street.

Her “Big Bertha” painting is a Green Sea Turtle.

The Majestic Sea Turtle Painting

The Majestic Sea Turtle Painting

Has one of the most vibrant shells, with a greenish undercarriage. She is one of the three species that lay eggs on the coast of North Carolina.

There are only 7 species of sea turtles and six are endangered. Approximately 1 in 10,000 hatchlings live to adulthood. Depending on the species, it can take between 10 – 30 years before a sea turtle is sexually mature and can lay eggs. The female returns to the general area of her birth to lay her eggs after spending many years in open seas. It is estimated that a sea turtle lives as long as 80 years

Clouds on an Ocean Sunset Seascape

Clouds on an Ocean Sunset Seascape

North Carolina has beautiful beaches, and walking in a sunset with bright colors is an inspiration.

This painting class consist of 3 parts:

  1. Learning to draw with a square grid Technic.
  2. Under-painting with acrylics.
  3. Finishing the painting with oils or acrylics.

Square Grid Drawing Technic:

Start by drawing in the canvas with a pencil using the Square Grid Drawing Technic. Start by dividing your sketch or photo in proportional squares, then you divide your canvas in with the same Technic in proportional squares. It doesn’t matter how big is your canvas or if it is a mural, the proportions will be perfect.

When using the Square Grid Drawing Technic you defined:

  1. Composition
  2. Proportions
  3. Light and shade

Clouds on an Ocean Sunset Drawing with a Square Grid

Under-painting with acrylics:

Use your acrylics with lots of water because they flow better, impregnating your canvas, don’t leave spots without paint. Acrylics are very good for under-painting because they dry faster. They create a worm color that once you finish your final painting with oils or acrylics in the top, they look brighter.

Finishing the painting with oils or acrylics:
Start with the clouds, continue with the ocean, the beach and finally the people.

Canvas: 11″x 14 or any size.

Acrylic Colors:

  1. Titanium White
  2. Cadmium Yellow Medium
