Ocracoke Lighthouse NC by Clina Polloni

Ocracoke Lighthouse NC by Clina Polloni

Original oil painting by Clina Polloni.

Oil on Canvas, 24”x 36”

Beautiful sunset in contrast with the white lighthouse.

“The texture of the walls of the lighthouse were so interesting that in order to accomplished, I used super heavy gesso. I am proud to add this painting to the collection of oil paintings that I am doing about North Carolina. Ocracoke Island is an enchanting place with its natural beauty, the long-ago tales of pirates and ships, an inspiration for us artists.”

Ocracoke Island Lighthouse located in the Outer Banks, is North Carolina’s oldest lighthouse in operation, (and the second oldest in the United States). At just 65′ ft. tall, it is the smallest lighthouse on the Outer Banks, but its beacon can be spotted up to 14 miles into the Pamlico Sound and the Atlantic Ocean.

This painting and postcards are FOR SALE at The Little ART Gallery inside the Cotton Company in Wake Forest NC.

Instructions of how to paint this lighthouse:

  1. Start by drawing the lighthouse.
  2. Do your under-paint or imprimatura with a wash of acrylic gold and silver. Acrylics are very good for under-painting because they dry faster. They create a worm color that once you put the oils or acrylics in the top, they look brighter.
  3. With a palette knife create the texture over the lighthouse with super heavy gesso.
